Residents Beg Wike As Health Facility Rots Away

Residents of the Omudioga community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State are pleading with the Rivers State government to come to their aid and reconstruct the health centre which they said has remained an eyesore for almost seven years now.
The residents lamented that the nonfunctional health centre has brought sufferings to them, adding that so many lives has been lost as a result of the sorry state of the health facility.
According to an indigence who spoke on grounds of anonymity, “because of the worse, dilapidated state of our health centre, our pregnant wives are been taken to Elele to deliver. Some pregnant women die on their way to Elele to deliver.

When asked why Elele, he said “we share boundary with Elele. Elele is in Ikwerre local government area, so you see, it is not that far, it is just about 12kilometers if I am correct. We need government to help us, Omudioga people are suffering, we are in pain, we are begging, crying, we need help, please, government should help us, they should save us from this nightmare.
“I heard our local government chairman, Dr. Chidi Lloyd has announced projects to flag off, please, I beg, if not for any other thing, he should include our health centre, please.”
Also speaking, an indigene who introduced himself as Mr. Dike Elijah Jerry, told TNN that, “yes, that is the present state, the sorry state of the only health centre in Omudioga, and Omudioga is a community in Emohua local government area of Rivers State, one of the largest community in terms of political power and population, even in farming, I am talking about the production of food, but it is unfortunate, and the tenth ward politically in Emohua local government, so, it is unfortunate that government so neglected the people that as I speak with you, you cannot go to the place and sense anything that have to do with this present government, especially from 2015 to date, and this health centre was built far back 80’s, there has not been renovations, what you saw is what is there, nothing like hyping it.
“People suffer in terms of child birth and all that, most persons before they could get to Port Harcourt to get health assistance, some give birth on their way, some of them suffer many kinds of diseases, as a result of the neglect from government. It is an abandoned facility, in fact, we are only calling it facility because there is erected building, there is nothing there, no bed for the baby, they come there once in a while and sweep just a portion and stay to administer these immunization, so you can see the level of abandonment and neglect.

“The people of Omudioga, we are really crying, we’ve been begging the executive governor of Rivers State, the current local government chairman of Emohua local government, we’ve been begging them to come to our aid, so, please, help us and publish it, I am a concerned citizen of Nigeria and indigene of Omudioga, help us and put it so that the world will see what we are suffering.”
