The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ, Rivers State chapter, has extended a hearty felicitation to Rivers women, particularly Christians, on the occasion of the Easter Celebration.

In a statement by the State Chairperson, Susan Serekara-Nwikhana and the Assistant Secretary, Edith Chuku, NAWOJ encouraged women to remain steadfast in the face of the current hardship, poverty, hunger and other challenges in the state and Nigeria at large.

The association appealed to Rivers Women not to compromise their faith, but rather, exhibit all the traits and characteristics of Christ and follow His footsteps, during and after the Easter season.

The statement emphasized on the need for everyone to show love to people, especially towards the less privileged ones, noting that the time we are in is a tempting one that have caused many their lives due to depression.

Stressing that Easter brings hope in the face of adversity, the women wing of the pen profession stated that “at a time like this, let us show love to one another in deeds, not just in words. Even if you have nothing to give, you can pray for one another, encourage one another.

“The hardship in this country is enough torment, let’s live a cheerful life, be kind to people around us, call your family, friends, neighbours, always check up on loved ones; that simple phone call can heal a soul.

“We are in a period when unusual things are happening; incessant rape, ritual killings, robbery, kidnapping, child trafficking and gender-based violence against women and girls, but in the face of all these we have to remain steadfast, united as women as we continue to advocate for an end to all of these menace.

“Again, we urge us to consider the welfare of others. Let us be sacrificial in our relationship with one another. This is what the death and resurrection of Christ represents. Let’s not allow our faith in Christ to be shaken.”
