Saturday’s attack was the first in the south-south, coming after the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike had declared a curfew in the state to prevent any form of invasion of the state.

A police woman on night duty was critically injured, the flag hoisted at the police station stolen and destructive acts carried out by the invaders.

Chairman of the local government, Mr Nyakno Okoibu visited the area after the attackers had left, where he assured that efforts were being made to restore normalcy in the area.

A statement by the press secretary to the chairman, Nsisong Ubong Ntuk confirmed the incident and said the chairman had reported the issue to the state government and other relevant agencies.

TNN reached out to the state police image maker, Odiko Ogbeche-MacDon on Saturday afternoon but the telephone network prevented a smooth conversation. A text message was later sent to him for confirmation of the incident but he never responded as at the time of filing this report.
