By John Odhe, YENAGOA

The Bayelsa State Police Command has appealed to the people of the Buseni community in Yenagoa Local Government Area to shelve their protest against oil companies and toe the path of dialogue.

The State Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale appealed to the protesters to remain calm and remove the blockades to allow free vehicular movement.

The commissioner made the appeal when he visited the area alongside the Mayor of Yenagoa, Mr. Bulodisiye Ndiwari.

In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr.Musa Mohammed said the people were protesting against years of underdevelopment despite their immense contribution to the economy of the state and the country.

The statement said during the engagement meeting with elderly women and youths, the people lamented years of lack of basic amenities and poor living conditions.

The oil producing community said they blocked the roads to express their frustrations over what they described as neglect despite the resources being extracted from the area.

The police boss urged them to reopen the road, promising to take their demands to the state government and other relevant authorities.

He noted that the police were opened to engagement that could bring lasting solutions to the issues raised.

He cautioned against actions capable of disrupting the peace in the area, adding that only the living could enjoy the development being demanded.
