Police Confirm Death Of Taxi Driver In PH

The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, has confirmed the death of a taxi driver that was said to have been beaten up by members of the state task force on road congestion.

Iringe-Koko in a telephone interview with TNN on Monday, explained that an issue erupted between the task force and a taxi driver on Sunday.

She said the taxi driver was beaten and taken to the hospital, sadly; she was informed that the driver died in the hospital.

Though the Police PRO, as at the time of this report, said there was no protest going on in Rumuokoro, but it is reported that aggrieved bus drivers staged a protest along the Rumuokoro –Rukpokwu Road in Port Harcourt, to register their grievance over the alleged killing of the taxi driver.

The demonstration was said to have stopped all vehicular movements, subjecting commuters to trekking, though, report has it that the situation has been put under control and normalcy restored to the area.
