Planned Probe: Wike Moves To Prevent Fubara’s Public Embarrassment

  • Considers Court Action
  • Scary Evidence Collated Against Wike

Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike may have gone to the drawing board to plot an escape graph, as a way of escaping what may turn out to be a huge public embarrassment to his person, when the probe panel to be constituted by Sim Fubara, governor of Rivers State, begins to investigate the minister’s activities while in office as governor.

TNN learnt that the former governor is already in talks with his allies on how best to handle the unexpected battle being set up by the governor. A source close to the minister said Wike never expected that Fubara could have the courage to consider a probe against his government.

It was learnt that one of the options being contemplated is to approach the court for an order to stop the impending probe. The source said on Monday night that the number one consideration is the legal option.

On Monday, Fubara had announced that the new commissioner for justice, Dagogo Iboroma, SAN, should get ready to probe the immediate past administration.

There are fears that the probe would open a can of worms. Fubara had said he chose Iboroma to join his government at this time because he was a bold, courageous and decent man who had nothing to hide.

In the last one week, Fubara had woken from what has been considered a deep sleep, taking actions that have been seen to be clear steps towards affirming his authority as governor, in the face of antagonism by Wike, who was trying to control him from the early days of the Fubara government.

His utterances in the recent past have confirmed that the governor is ready for a fight with his former boss. He said so at the swearing-in ceremony, noting that since there was no sign of peaceful resolution to the fight between him and Wike, it had become necessary to go the whole hog to save the state.

TNN was informed on Monday night that documents of financial dealings during the days of Wike were already being assembled ahead of the take-off of the probe panel.

It was not clear if the local government chairmen who came into office during the days of Wike, and who have been terrorizing the governor because of their loyalty to Wike, would also be made to account for all the funds they collected since they got into office.
