PDP Soon To Announce Date For South-South Congress- Diri

Bayelsa State governor, Senator Douye Diri on Monday reaffirmed the position of most leaders of the PDP that what happened in Calabar penultimate week in the name of a south-south congress was a sham.

The governor said at the PDP secretariat in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State where he attended the party’s state executive committee meeting that the leadership of the party would soon announce a date for the congress.
The FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, after the congress he organised in Calabar, had however announced that what he did was final, as there would be no other congress in the zone under the banner of the PDP.
But that position was countered by Diri who also praised the party leaders in Bayelsa for staying together and remaining resolute and united in pushing for the growth of the party.
Saying that the PDP was the party to beat in the state also urged those in the opposition to join the PDP to actualize their political aspirations.
“To set the records straight, there is no zonal congress held in the South-South zone. At the appropriate time, the national will decide the date in conjunction with the zonal leadership which includes the four PDP Governors in the zone.”
In Bayelsa as well as the South-South zone, there is no crisis. We are following what is right and the constitution of our party”, Gov. Diri stated.
At the meeting, the leadership of the party passed a vote of confidence on Diri and his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, for what they called the governor’s outstanding performance in the past five years.
