With the listing of their candidates’ names on the portal of INEC, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, looks ready for the 2027 general elections. For Cross River, the party’s presidential candidate, Prof Sandy Onor has been recognised by the electoral umpire as the PDP candidate.
Also, Arthur Jarvis has been listed as the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the state, while Dr Alex Egbona, the current member of the House of Representatives for Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency is listed for the same constituency as the PDP candidate.
John Ifere, the party’s candidate for the Cross River Central Senatorial district election as well as Prof Zana Akpagu of the Obanliku/Bekwarra/Obudu federal constituency have been recognised on the INEC portal.
This comes even as the PDP in Cross River is gaining more grounds, with a few months to the general election. Last week, many APC members defected to the PDP in the Etung Local Government.
In the Abi/Yakurr federal constituency where Egbona is said to be reigning, there have been reports of daily defection of APC members into the PDP.
National Publicity Secretary of the party, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed is already upbeat that the party will spring surprises at the polls.
In a recent interview, the party’s spokesman said “as you are aware, we have received the codes and we have commenced the uploading since Monday. We have not encountered any challenges. Everything is going on smoothly.
“As you know, it’s in phases; governorship and State House Assembly have a different date for final submission, while that of the National Assembly and the Presidential will be closed by 7th July.”
