Rivers State governor, Sim Fubara has continued to make a mockery of his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, even as he is making a public show of his friendship and partnership with Dr Peter Odili, another former governor of the state.
While Odili has since declared Fubara as the political leader of the state, Wike now seems to be at a loss as to Fubara’s new-found courage and audacity to confront and talk about him the way he has in the recent past.
In the last few weeks, Fubara has not pretended about his sense of independence and determination to be his own man, while also showing publicly that nobody, not even Wike, can pocket him. In fact, two weeks ago, he openly said that he would show his strength if anyone dared him.
His comments, are obviously not going down well with Wike. He has already sent a strong message to Wike’s ally, including commissioners in his cabinet and local government chairmen who have been disrespecting him, that they would fall into the pit they were digging, by their conducts and acts of disloyalty.
On Sunday, Fubara dropped another bombshell towards the direction of Wike, through a veiled refence though, that his relationship with Odili was already giving him high blood pressure.
A statement by his chief press secretary, Nelson Chukwudi quoted the governor as saying that he was not apologetic about his partnership with Odili, because the former governor was a man of integrity.
Hear him: “I’ve said it before, and I’m saying it again: it doesn’t matter the number of people that stand with you. Even if you’re standing alone, no matter the side you’re standing, provided you are standing on the right side, maintain your stand. And we are happy to stand with him (Odili).
“We are also happy that he is standing with us. Even his person alone is giving people high blood pressure. They are restless, granting all sorts of media interviews. Why are they doing it? It is because the people that matter, the people that have what they claimed they have; integrity, are with us. That is the truth.
“So, if we have one person who has integrity and character, is it not better than having 1,000 persons with questionable character? So, we are happy to identify with him.
“Greatness is not about money. Greatness is the value that you give to yourself. Greatness is the respect that you preserve for yourself.
“So that even when you’re being insulted, you look around and say: I know my value, I will not bring myself down. So, continue to stand with it. God will help us to achieve the purpose of governance with your help.”
