Plans have reached an advanced stage for two high profile royal fathers in the South South geo-political zone, the Obong of Calabar, His Eminence Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V and the Oba of Benin, Omo N’oba N’Edo Akpolokpolo Ewuare 11 to cement the existing relationship between their domains through a golf tournament that would be played by the teams floated by the two monarchs.

Speaking to TNN sports in Calabar, coordinator of the competition, Mr. Orok-Oyo Enebong hinted that the match-play golf championship which will be played on rotational basis with the first leg scheduled for the Benin Golf Club in Edo State will not only unite the two kingdoms but will also bridge a gap in culture as well as keeping the people in good health and physically fit.

Enebong who is also a member of the Calabar Golf Club posited that the 2-day events that will cover 36 holes will parade 30 golfers each from the two kingdoms with the winners carting away a prestigious trophy.
Though the date of the tournament was not fixed as at the time of going to press, Enebong expressed the hope that the match-play golf tournament will come-up on April 2021while the return led will be held at the Calabar golf course.
