The Rivers State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps NYSC, Mr Moses Oleghe, is begging the state government for urgent action in executing the 1000 bed space hotel accommodation for male and female corps members.
Oleghe made this appeal on Friday when the Chief Judge who was represented by Justice Florence Fiberesima administered oath to a total of 3665 corps members, comprising 1328 males and 2337 females, for the 2026 Batch A Stream II orientation exercise.
The swearing in ceremony was held at the State NYSC Permanent Orientation camp, Nonwa-Gbam, Tai.
The state NYSC coordinator revealed that the hostel when completed would ease accommodation shortage challenges following the increasing population of corps members deployed to the state.
Oleghe said the corps members were eager and willing to make indelible marks in nation building, noting that NYSC top management over the years have been intentional in exposing corps members to practical life changing experiences which he said has helped in transitioning them from the life of dependency to independence vital for their growth and development.
He thanked the governor for what he described as his “superlative and superfluous support to the NYSC Scheme in the State.”
Addressing the corps members, the governor, Siminalayi Fubara commended the scheme’s Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers, HIRD.
“NYSC Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) is a veritable intervention in community healthcare delivery services impacting the lives of average Nigerians positively.”
Fubara who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government and Chairman, NYSC State Governing Board, Dr. Dagogo Wokoma, expressed delight over the increased population of corps members deployed to the State.
According to him, “the increased population of corps members deployed to the state is a reflection of the perception of parents and citizens who appreciate the peace, progress and good governance engineered by his administration.
“Let me assure you that this administration would not relent in it’s commitment to uplifting the lives of the graduate youths and leaders of tomorrow.
“I charge you to make the most use of the orientation course experiences to contribute optimally to nation building.”
