All is not well in the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, says the newly appointed minister of Niger Delta Affairs Umana Okon Umana.
He believes that the rot in the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC as ‘a mess’ aimed at frustrating the development of the region.
Umana disclosed this at a Retreat organized by his ministry and Niger Delta Development Commission ,NDDC, to brainstorm on the lingering issues which had continued to bring low development to the region.
He wondered, why the commission handled its finances in a rational manner and implement its budget in a rotational manner, awarding contracts and piling up payments to a level and tune that is found in the commission.
Hear him “I think the situation is very messy, it is very, very messy. It is part of what we have to do to correct the mistakes of the past”. According to him, “the truth of the matter is that the available funds today cannot liquidate the liabilities that we have at hand. That is the truth”.
He said that within his short period in the office, he would need to change the narrative by looking at the way budget will accommodate meaningful projects, regional projects and high impact projects to ensure completion.
