The National Association of Nigerian Students NANS, alongside the Niger Delta Students Union Government, NIDSUG, have commended the management of the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC, for their support in providing solar lights and award of foreign scholarships to Niger Delta students.

Leadership of NANS and NIDSUG, also hailed the management of the Commission, led by the Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, for the construction of hostels and classrooms across various institutions of learning in the region.

The students’ bodies further dissociated themselves and NANS Zone B, from an alleged planned protest against the NDDC, describing the said organiser, Mr. Reomeo kemepadei, as illegitimate and rogue leader of the NIDSUG.

They stated this at a joint press conference in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

The National President of NIDSUG, Mr. Scott Ogunseri, and his counterpart, Mr. Isaac Ogieva, noted that, “the National Association of Nigerian Students is the umbrella body of Nigerian Students both at home and in the diaspora, which serves as a rapid response organ for the day to day running of students’ activities.

“On this note, we unequivocally state that NANS Zone B is not involved in any such planned protest and has not authorized any individual or group to represent it in this regard.

“As a law-abiding and responsible organization, NANS Zone B remains steadfast and committed to promoting the welfare and interests of Nigerian students through peaceful and constructive means.”

They urged, “students and the general public to disregard any information or propaganda suggesting that NANS Zone B is involved in any planned protest to NDDC.

“We want to use this medium to appreciate the Dr. Samuel ogbuku’s led NDDC management for their support in providing solar light, the award of foreign scholarships and the construction of hostels and classrooms across the various higher institutions of learning in our region.

“We also appreciate the board and management for the youth and students empowerment programme, especially the youth internship programme soon to be implemented.

“In this regard, and to maintain peace in our region, we call on the security agencies to fish out all those responsible for sponsoring, initiating and participating in unwholesome activities such as illegal protests with aim of causing unrest in our region.

“The National Executives of the Niger Delta Student Union Government NIDSUG, hereby disclaim, counter, and disassociate ourselves from the planned protest against the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC orchestrated by imposters.

“The proposed protest, initiated by Mr. Romeo Emieye Kemepade and Mr. Idowu Ayemobuwa (Hero), is unauthorized and illegitimate. We condemn such calls and advise our members, IOCs, Parastatals, and Ministries to disregard any information from these impostors.”

To the management and staff of NDDC, the associations urged them to, “work hand in glove with NANS Zone B and the legitimate Niger Delta Students Union President, Mr Scott Ogunseri and executive member, Mr. Isaac Ogieva to avoid imposters from orchestrating violence and unrest due to their self serving interests.

“We acknowledge the NDDC management’s laudable projects and programs, which have benefited our students. Our intention is to foster peace, unity, and growth in our region, not promote crisis.

The students’ bodies further charged security agencies to, “arrest anyone participating in unauthorized protests, arrest impostors claiming to represent NIDSUG.

“We seek continued dialogue with the NDDC for regional development. We propose the approval of the NIDSUG-proposed Niger Delta Bursary.

“We request internship opportunities for students, expansion of the Overseas Scholarship to accommodate more beneficiaries and consideration for local scholarships to complement the Students’ loan by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

They commended Tinubu for appointing Ogbuku as the MD of NDDC and reassured the Commission of their unwavering support in ensuring peace and development in the student community.
