MOSIEND To Buhari: Constitute A Substantive NDDC Board

Some stakeholders in the Niger Delta communities have urged president Muhammadu Buhari and the National Assembly not to heed to any interim management committee of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, concerning the 2020/2021 Budget.
The group, under the auspices of the Movement for the Survival of Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta, MOSIEND, through her National president, Ambassador Kennedy Tonjo West said that from the 2019 Budget, one cannot trace any project to any community in the Niger Delta where the fund was expended.

West made this call shortly after MOSIEND officially inaugurated her National Executive members. Those inaugurated includes; the President-Kennedy Tonjo West, Vice President-Thompson Robert Fuoye, Secretary-Amb. Cotterel Amain, Spokesman-Charles Omusuku, Treasurer-Chief Henry Nabena, Financial Secretary-Prince Amaibi Hornby.
Others are, Woman Leader-Tonbra Kasikoro Klioprite, Mobilization officer-Alhaji Barasei Amaigo Brown, Director of Operations-Opukeme Obubor, Deputy National Organizing Secretary-Dimieari Pepple, Assitant National Secretary-David Dasembo, Ex officio-Kelvin Akuna, Ex officio-Prince Oweibi, National Director of Cultural Affairs-Chief Richman Yinbiri.
According to West, “the Movement for the Survival of Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta, MOSIEND, is calling on President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Assembly not to give ear to any interim management committee of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, concerning the 2020/2021 Budget.
“We express displeasure that from the 2019 Budget, one cannot trace any project to any community in the Niger Delta where the fund was expended. We therefore call on President Buhari to urgently constitute a substantive Board of the NDDC.”

He said, “this was very necessary, so that Niger Deltans can engage the NDDC, know how much is appointed to the various communities and also hold the commission responsible whenever the need arises.
“The leadership of MOSIEND will engage the Federal Government in many areas, especially on some extant laws that do not protect the interest of the Ijaw ethnic nationality and the entire people of the Niger Delta.”
West also said they were not in support of the Water Resources Bill, which according to him, was targeted at impoverishing the Ijaws.
He said “the Ijaw Nation is totally against the Water Resources Bill because it is targeted at impoverishing the Ijaws. We are no longer satisfied with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, we call on the international community and the Nigerian State to take note that the Ijaws want a referendum.
“The referendum is necessary to know the direction of the Niger Delta people. There is need for a fresh constitution which will give one hundred percent resource ownership to Niger Deltans, as well as justice and fairness to all.

“The Ijaw nation is no longer comfortable with the 13 percent derivation to oil producing communities. We are calling on governors of the Niger Delta region and other critical stakeholders to open their doors for engagement with MOSIEND.
The MOSIEND National President also frowned at the recent increase in fuel price, adding that MOSIEND will engage the over 40 ethnic nationalities within the Niger Delta region to begin the process of advancing the liberation of the region.
