There was a heavy presence of supporters and critics at the Abuja headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Monday as former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, arrived at the commission’s office.
The gathering at the EFCC’s Jabi premises drew two opposing groups.
While one faction expressed support for the former governor, another insisted that the anti-graft agency must conduct a detailed and impartial investigation into the matter.
Although the atmosphere around the commission’s office was tense, the demonstration did not escalate beyond verbal exchanges, as security personnel maintained order at the entrance.
Videos circulating on social media showed a brief moment of tension when some individuals believed to be members of El-Rufai’s entourage were denied entry into the facility by security operatives.
El-Rufai’s appearance at the commission followed confirmation from his legal representatives that he would honour the agency’s invitation for questioning.
The development came days after reports of a failed attempt to detain him at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The former governor later entered the EFCC complex, while demonstrators remained outside the gate, chanting and holding placards as proceedings continued inside.
