LG Chair Leads Drainage Desilting to Combat Flooding in Obio/Akpor

As part of efforts to address the challenges orchestrated by flooding in the area, the Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Dr Gift Worlu, has inspected desilting of drainages, demanding residents adherence to the operation keep Obio/Akpor clean initiative.

During the inspection on Monday, Worlu expressed concern over the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainages and walkways, which he said contributes to flooding.

He revealed that the “Operation Keep Obio/Akpor Clean” campaign, was aimed create a healthier environment, as initiated by the environmental sanitation chairman, Chief Chijioke Kennedy Akaninwa.

While commending the sanitation committee for their efforts, the LG chair called on residents to make proper use of approved dump sites.

Worlu further directed the committee to demolish unauthorized structures defacing the council’s premises, even as he emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving a clean and safe environment.

He said, “to avoid flooding, residents are urged to use approved dump sites and avoid dumping refuse in drainages and walkways. The “Operation Keep Obio Akpor Clean” initiative is a commendable effort to address environmental challenges in the area. By working together, the local government and residents can achieve a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment.”
