Leave NDDC Road, Construct Yours, A’Ibom Youths Tell Udom
1 min readStadium road project in Esit Eket Local Government Area, which was awarded by NDDC to Et-Dick Nigeria Ltd and at 85 per cent completion which was recently re- awarded by the Akwa Ibom State government to an indigenous contractor, has caused a pandemonium between youths of the area and the state government.
In a letter written to the governor and signed by Ekemini Okon Bassey, the youths said it was fraudulent for the state government to award a road contract handled by NDDC to an indigenous firm.
“We appreciate the moves of the state government in attending to some roads in Esit Eket, but we are of the opinion that stadium road, though temporarily abandoned at 85 per cent completion, should be allowed to be completed by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
“We have been assured by the commission that in no distant time, the contractor will be mobilized to complete the job as it will amount to fraud and will duplicate responsibility for government to complete the road project,” the youths said.
They called on the state government to, instead of wasting resources on the said road, go and rehabilitate other roads and abandoned projects that litter the state.
They insisted that they will send away the government contractor if he comes again to the site, adding that last week some government surveyors from the ministry of works came to Stadium road and began preliminary work, despite the NDDC signage conspicuously positioned along Stadium road.
