Jubilation in Rivers Community As Nobody Died After Building Collapsed

Natives of Rumuekini in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, have described as miracle, the incident of the building collapse that happened in the wee hours of Thursday Morning.
They gave this description while expressing their excitement that the house collapsed without killing nor trapping anyone in it.
Some natives, residents and business owner who spoke with TNN, explained that the building collapsed because there were no pillars holding it.
They said major parts of the building had been brought down, with the pillars removed by Julius Berger, because of the ring road construction project in the area.
The interviewees blamed Julius Berger for not collapsing the entire building knowing the dangers involved.
A certain Mrs Sarima Obinwo, told our correspondent that “this is really a miracle. Thank God it didn’t fall in the day time when people are moving about and people selling too, we just thank God.
“The thing is that the engineers came and cut where they want to use and left that one standing without pillars holding it because they have cut where the pillars are, that is why it collapsed.
“They can avoid this kind of thing and even worse things if the company will bring down such buildings completely so it does not collapse on it’s own, it’s very dangerous.”
An elder from the community, Mr. Philip Mark who also spoke on the incident, said “it’s the ring road construction, they have cut major part of the building out so the remaining one nothing hold am again, no be the full building, them don cut am, wetin remain no reach one veranda.
“Let’s say na for this morning na em the thing happen. Nobody was there, they have packed their properties away, though they paid our people late, so we had to clear that place so they can do their work. What was remaining is like one room divided into two, nothing is there, a room is 12 by 12, nothing is there.
” My happiness is that it did not fall in the day time, nobody was there, eh no kill anybody, that’s my happiness.”
