As controversy continues to trail the process leading to the conduct of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) national executive election slated for Saturday March 8, 2026, TNN has Learnt that that the 2019 INC constitution used to disqualify some aspirants is an unsigned document.
It could be recalled that the uncleared aspirants, including Elder Timi Ogoriba have rejected their disqualification, describing it as handing work of the outgoing President of the INC, Prof. Benjamin Okaba, whom they accuse of favouring some his preferred candidates against others.
TNN gathered that the INC electoral process may end up in legal fireworks which may stall the election on Saturday at the Ijaw house in Yenagoa Bayelsa.
A source privy to happenings in the Ijaw national leadership to our correspondent that the aggrieved disqualified aspirants have already contacted their lawyers to halt the electoral process pending when the contentious issues are trashed to enable a level playing ground for all aspirants.
TNN has earlier reported that the aspirant were disqualified on the ground of non participation in INC affairs, an allegation the aspirants described as flimsy and biased and a way to create express victory for preferred candidates.
All attempt to reach the Secretary of the national Electoral Committee of the INC, Mr. Olobo Jamaica proved unsuccessful as several calls put to his cell phone by Our correspondent all rang out. He did not also return the calls.
As at the time of filing this report, TNN learnt that the INC electoral umpire was holding a meeting with the aggrieved aspirants at the Ijaw house in Yenagoa.
