Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, for the Rivers State House of Assembly, Obio/Akpor Constituency 11, Mrs. Emilia Lucky Amadi, JP, has revealed her development agenda if she emerges winner in the forthcoming 2023 election.
The retired principal spoke with EDITH CHUKU and GIFT BARIKWA in this exclusive interview where she explained her position on vote buying, what the people stand to benefit if she emerges, among other issues of concern.

Why do you want to represent the people of Obio/Akpor Constituency 11 in the house of assembly?
By the grace of God Almighty, my nomination and emergence as a candidate for the house of assembly, under our very own only reliable party, the PDP, is a divine mandate, the word of God says is not of him that willet nor of him that runneth but of God that showeth mercy.
For others, it is a position, an office to occupy, but for me, it is a platform to reach out, to serve, to relate, to help, to listen to, to meet with, to mobilise, to gather, to assist, to develop, to organize, to speak for, initiate, carryout grassroot beneficial programmes. It is a platform through which government at the higher level can meet the need, touch the lives of those at the grassroot, just like the place of a mediator, I am but a servant.
Having been called upon by the leadership of Obio/Akpor local government area and through the vision of our exceptional leader, His Excellency, Chief Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the executive governor of Rivers State, haven being so gender friendly said that for every LGA that has two constituencies, a woman should be given a chance for one, and His LGA Obio/Akpor deemed it necessary to nominate me by voting.
We were three women that they nominated and I had the highest vote, so I was chosen. I want to reiterate that for me it is a mandate, a divine mandate to serve, and I have made myself very much available, accessible, willing, committed and devoted to this service I have been mandated by my party, my leaders and my people to do.
If you are voted in, what are you bringing to the table, what should the people you are to represent expect from you?
Like I said, it’s a mandate, which means I didn’t choose myself, people vested this responsibility on me as their candidate, also, if I win which I know God will bring to pass, the people, the electorate made that happen, so, I will not give them fish today when they deserve to be exposed and shown how to fish that will sustain them in the future. What I am trying to emphasis is that I will communicate with the people, I will investigate, I will look down, and ensure that I don’t give them temporary food in place of skill. So, what is paramount to the totality of Obio/Akpor Constituency 11 is what I will always bring to the table.
I can easily say skill acquisition, spelling Bee, scholarships, employment, health this, education, but, I think the voice of the majority which will benefit the entire people is where I stand, it’s a mandate that I didn’t give myself, so, I will consult those who gave me the mandate.

I am a mother, a grass root political leader, I have been a woman leader of this ward, I know what my people needs and God helping me, as His will comes to pass, I am going to represent them very well, bringing the dividends of democracy to the door step of my constituency, that whatever that is due to them, will definitely reach them. It will be a transparent and an all-inclusive administration God helping us.
Vote buying has become a tactic in elections today, if towing that part will ensure your victory, will you bribe electorate to vote for you?
There won’t be need for such, I won’t even have to think that direction because it won’t arise, see, this mandate is divine, it came from above; God, the only task I have is to talk to my people, anybody can give money but the conscience of the people of Obio/Akpor Constituency 11 cannot be bought with money, they are not going to sell their tomorrow for two thousand, three thousand, one thousand, five hundred naira, no, I know they won’t. Obio/Akpor Constituency 11 will not sell their conscience, the umbrella, PDP is where we stand, so they don’t cry that they’re deprived the dividends of democracy, I will not toll that part, you need to vote according to your conscience. I don’t have to convince them, they nominated me, voted for me, they believe in me and know that together we will achieve better, so, like I said, I will talk to them but they are already convinced that PDP is the only party that means well for Rivers people, and have candidates that has the interest of the people at heart, I am a grass root person and we have been together, so, I will talk but I know that they know, so they are already convinced.

As a woman, how will women benefit if you emerge?
God being on my side, women will be empowered immensely, women empowerment will be massive because if you empower a woman the entire home is empowered, and come to these election women are more in number so if I’m there, by His grace I’m there already my women will not regret.
