Ibas In Trouble As Rivers Assembly Probes Activities Under Emergency Rule

There is not likely to be peace for the outgone administrator of Rivers State, retired Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas, following the decision of the state house of assembly to probe all his activities, including the management of funds that accrued to the state during the period of his reign.

The lawmakers resumed their legislative duties on Thursday, after the end of the emergency rule in the state. Apart from the decision to probe Ibas, they have also resolved to write to the governor, Sim Fubara, to send his appropriation bill for legislative action.

The 27 lawmakers sat without any of the four lawmakers loyal to Fubara. It was not clear if they would be recalled to join them as part of the reconciliation.

The assembly presided over by the speaker, Martins Amaewhule, will also be expecting the governor to send the list of his nominees for appointment as commissioners.

Ibas disappointed the entire state when he failed to complete work on the assembly complex, making it difficult for the lawmakers to carry out their duties there, on resumption. Despite his boasts about his readiness to ensure that the complex was completed before the end of the emergency rule, Ibas could not make it happen.
