In one fell swoop, five of the commissioners nominated for appointment to serve in the government of Sim Fubara decided to vacate office on Wednesday. Their resignation came a few days after four of their other colleagues had left.
Three out of the four that left the cabinet recently have already been appointed into various federal government agencies, courtesy of the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, among them Emeka Woke, George Kelly and Zacheus Adangor.
The remaining commissioners chose to remain in the cabinet but their loyalty were still with Wike. TNN learnt that the governor had told them to choose between loyalty to the people of Rivers State and concentrate on their work, or they should quit, before he would consider announcing their sack.
On Wednesday, the commissioners-The commissioners are Prof. Chinedu Mmom (Education), Dr. Gift Worlu (Housing), Austen Ben-Chioma (Environment), Inime Aguma (Social Welfare), and Jacobson Nbina (Transport)-all decided to leave, as they were not ready to denounce their loyalty to Wike.
Interestingly, most of them had earlier resigned in the early days of the conflict between Fubara and Wike, before President Bola Tinubu directed Fubara, after the Abuja accord, to recall them.
There were emerging signals that the governor would nominate more nominees for screening by the house of assembly which, only on Monday, screened the new attorney-general who was later inaugurated.
With the current development, Fubara appears to have found his bearing and is beginning to take charge of the state affairs, as all of Wike’s nominees have left his government.
