A security team in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State has apprehended a young man who specializes in scamming people, mixing water with palm oil to sell to unsuspecting members of the public.
TNN gathered that the man whose name was given simply as Gabriel, allegedly fills 20 to 25 litres of jerry-can with water and then adds a cup or two of palm oil on top before selling to the public for as low as N8,000.
An eye witness who spoke on the matter affirmed that the Gabriel who has been arrested and handed over to security agents had almost allegedly scammed one Mrs. Ngozika Iwuji who had requested for a supply of 50 litres of palm oil.

According to the witness, “we were just sitting here when this boy, the one that brought the water in place of oil, carried two jerry-cans and passed us, after some time he passed again with nothing; I saw him.
“Not up to 30 seconds after he passed, we heard the women shouting, we were not sure until we saw her and she said it’s the boy that brought oil, that he brought water, as in what is inside the jerry-can is water not oil; that it’s just small oil that is inside. We immediately pursued and caught him.”

She claimed that the boy did confess to have been scamming people with this method for about three weeks now. “He said that they have not catch him before, say he has been doing this for three weeks now.”
Also speaking, Mrs Iwuji who was almost allegedly scammed narrated her side of the story. “My dear, this one is unbelievable, I don’t know what touched me. I know the boy, his madam is my customer, she supplies oil to me, so this one is very surprising but I am sure the madam is not involved and not aware of this.

“I called the madam for oil, she told me her boy was bringing the oil since Monday (last week), I waited yet I didn’t see him, I said let me not report him, till Tuesday. He called me saying he had emergency, that I should give him till Friday that he will bring the oil, he pleaded with me not to tell his madam, I said okay.
“The madam even called me, I told her that he has brought the oil. (laughs) I didn’t know I was digging my own grave. Today he brought the oil, I opened the jerry-can and tasted the oil, and it was excellent but I felt something was wrong somewhere, so, I shook the jerry-can I got this heavy water sound, I can’t tell what led me. I used our rubber to turn the oil and behold, the oil was water.
“He told us here that he has been doing it to people and selling for N8,000 and it’s been working. According to him, his madam has not been paying him well, but why I’m shocked that this boy even thought of doing this to me is because there is no day he brings oil to me from his madam that I don’t dash him money, N500, N300 even N1000 depending on what I have. So why did he do this?”
TNN was shown the two jerry-can of water disguised as palm oil.
