Chief Francis O. Wainwei, a legal adviser in the opposition All Progressives Congress APC, in Rivers State, has described his party’s flagbearer for the 2023 governorship election in the state, Tonye Patrick Cole, as a technocrat.
Speaking with TNN in an exclusive interview in Port Harcourt, he said Cole has the vision and capacity to turn Rivers State around.
As against claims by Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike that APC will be doomed if President Muhammadu Buhari did not interfere with the conduct of the 2023 general elections, Wainwei said that the party was prepared to take over Brick House.
He said the party was mobilizing support for Cole who he said was the most credible of all the candidates contesting the governorship position in the state.
In his words, “It’s all about mobilizing people to support good governance, yes, mobilizing the masses to support good governance and to ensure that good, credible candidates emerge as leaders.
“Tonye Cole is a technocrat, an intellectual, who has the calmness, the vision and the capacity to holistically turn around Rivers State, he is not a noise maker, he is somebody that is intelligent, calm and understands the principles of human capital development, so, we are looking forward to seeing Tonye Cole as the governor of Rivers State.”
He said it was important for government to “build the people to build the city, don’t build the city at the expense of the people, Tonye Cole has the capacity to build human capital that will drive the accelerated development of Rivers State.”
“What we expect from Rivers people is to vote massively for Tonye Cole and thank God for BVAS, it is one man, one vote, no more carrying of ballot boxes and electoral materials to one place and then thump printing, this election is going to be based on one man, one vote, and we know that majority of Rivers people know what they want.
“It is not just the propaganda and the noise making, we want people that will respect other leaders, people that can galvanize other leaders to contribute to the development of the state, it is not one man that can develop a state, the development of a state is the aggregate contributions of members of that society, so we need somebody that has the capacity, the leadership acumen to be able to generate that kind of large following, so that he can utilize the abundant natural talents in Rivers State for the advancement of Rivers State.”
