Group Moves To Avert Accidents In Rivers

In the spirit of Christmas, a pro PDP humanitarian group known as Wike For Positive Change has flagged off her pet project, Zebra Crossing Sign with hope of averting road accident in Rivers State.
Last Thursday, the group took their pet project to some part of the Apara Kingdom in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking during the marking of zebra crossing signs on some major roads, a youth president in the Apara Kingdom, Comr. Loveday Opurum applauded the leadership of the group for the initiative. He told TNN that “ though most drivers and pedestrians are ignorant of the importance of these signs and what the rule states yet zebra crossing sign remains very essential, absolutely imperative methods to avert or probably reduce road accidents to the barest minimal.”
According to Opurum, “The importance of these signs cannot be over emphasized; recall that the zebra crossing is a popular road sign, whose rules assures the total safety of the road user. Unfortunately most commuters don’t even know that they’ll apply an absolute break at zebra crossing location to allow the road user cross over due to poor or zero driving education.
“This pet project is to avert in every possible way road accidents. It’s indeed a sensitive project which is geared towards saving the lives of our teaming populace and to also control the reckless driving attitude of our road users.
On his part, Bestman Nnadi, chairman, education committee, in a statement issued shortly after the completion of the project thanked the group for what he described as their kind gesture even as he described the project as a welcome development.
Nnadi added that “the road sign, zebra crossing, is indeed a welcomed development especially this season we are in, it will reduce or probably stop the recurrent accident of our school children as experienced over the years.
