Fubara: How Wike Is Delaying Peaceful Settlement With Assemblymen

Less than 24 hours after defecting to the APC, Rivers State governor, Sim Fubara, on Wednesday, blamed the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for delaying the peaceful resolution of the face-off between him and members of the state house of assembly.

His position came about a week after the assembly threatened to deal with the governor for failing to fix decaying infrastructure in the state, including public schools.

Fubara said in Ahoada that all along, he was waiting for Wike to summon a meeting where he and members of the assembly would meet to resolve pending issues, in line with the agreement they reached, but that the minister was yet to convene the meeting.

He said he was very ready to meet the demands of the lawmakers, as his way of ensuring that peace reigned in the state.

He also defended his decision to join the APC, saying it was necessary to make an open show of the state’s support for the president, Bola Tinubu, ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The lawmakers have been tormenting Fubara, even after the assumed peaceful settlement of the rift between them, that led to the declaration of a state of emergency.

Whereas Fubara had promised to present his 2026 budget at the reconstructed assembly complex, the lawmakers, during their last sitting, insisted that they would continue to use chambers within their residential quarters till the end of their term in office, an indication that they would not have anything to do with the official legislative complex even after its completion.
