For the First Time In History, Vehicles Drive Into Bayelsa Community

History has been made in the sleepy town of Oporoma, headquarters of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, where a car drove in for the first time in the history of the community.

This is courtesy of the Yenagoa-Oporoma road being constructed by Senator Douye Diri. While a mega bridge connecting Oporoma is still under construction, sand-filling has already begun into the community, making it possible for a car to enter Oporoma by road for the first time.

An eye witness, Gborienemi Mark-charles, who decided to do a test drive on the road, from Yenagoa into Oporoma, gave an account of the exciting experience.

He wrote on his Facebook wall that “my journey on the Yenagoa-Oporoma road completely changed my perspective. Based on the pictures and videos I had seen, I wasn’t expecting much.

“But as we passed Agoubiri Community, I was stunned to see the completed Agoubiri-bridge of about 100 Meters. Governor Diri completed this?” I asked, impressed. My view of the road and the governor began to shift as we drove further and saw how much of the road was already paved with asphalt.

“I was equally surprised to see a new road leading to the Enewari community, with significant progress made on the sand-filling in such a short time. The most impressive part of the trip was reaching the main bridge, a massive structure stretching 650 meters. The progress on the work was remarkable, and it looks like the bridge will be completed early next year.

“I also noticed that the bridge and road construction are moving forward simultaneously. The asphalt paving is moving quickly, already past Angiama and Otuan and heading to Oporoma the head quarters of Southern Ijaw LGA. At this rate, the road could reach Oporoma latest by the end of next year.

The residents of these communities are full of praise for the governor, grateful for the new link to the state capital. My trip was a true eye-opener. It’s a powerful lesson that it’s always best to see things for yourself before judging based on social media. A visit to the Yenagoa-Oporoma road will give you a real appreciation for the governor’s work. Please give it a try.”

Also, Tu Anderson Miebi, shared his excitement on the road.He announced that “we’re thrilled to announce that vehicles can now drive all the way to the Oporoma Community. Kudos to our Miracle Governor for fulfilling this long-awaited dream and for his unwavering commitment to connecting our rural communities to the urban centre. This is more than a road; it’s a bridge to opportunity, development, and progress.

Thank you Governor Douye Diri for your unwavering commitment, dedication, devotion & responsibility for attracting industrialization & commercialization to our dear community, Oporoma,  the headquarters of SILGA.

“Sand filling has reached Oporoma Community enabling vehicles with Auxiliary capabilities can drive to Oporoma Community today. Kudos to our Miracle Governor for connecting our rural communities to the Urban City.”

The Yenagoa-Oporoma Road is one of the three senatorial roads currently being undertaken by the Diri government. With the roads, all parts of the state will easily be accessed by road.

While vehicles can now drive to Ekeremor and Oporoma, work is currently ongoing to enable those in Brass also drive to their homes.
