Coming at this time that the world is celebrating Christmas, the NDDC has taken steps to ensure maximum security in the Niger Delta, with the donation of communication equipment to the Rivers State command of the Nigeria Police.

Presenting to the equipment to the police, the managing director, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, said the gesture was aimed at ensuring a better communication among the police, as part of the commission’s contribution towards enhancing security in the region.

This donation is part of our efforts to support the security agencies to fight crime in the Niger Delta region. We believe that the modern communication tools will assist the police to carry out their duties more effectively and ensure the safety of our communities.

“We will provide the communication equipment and other necessary assistance to all the police commands in the Niger Delta region.”

He said the rapid development of the Niger Delta region could be achieved only in a peaceful environment, noting that peace and security were critical to creating the necessary environment for the rapid development of the Niger Delta region.

He added: “The NDDC is committed to giving adequate support to the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to ensure effective job performance. As part of this commitment, we have been able to provide security gadgets and operational vehicles to the police, and we are determined to collaborate with other state police commands and security agencies in the region to enhance their operations.”

Ogbuku said as an interventionist agency, the NDDC would not hesitate to ensure that security agencies were given the necessary support to enhance their capacity to maintain security in the Niger Delta region and observed that since NDDC had an obligation to support security agencies, it needed a secure environment to discharge its mandate effectively.
The state commissioner of Police, Mr Bala Mustapha Mohammed, who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Samuel Erale, had earlier commended the NDDC for its continued support for the police force.
