FEPSGA: Team Rivers, FIRS Continue Winning Streak As SGF Babes Spank Women Affairs In Handball
3 min readOn Saturday at the ongoing Federal Public Service Games, FEPSGA, hosted by the Rivers State government, the host, Team Rivers, as well as Team FIRS continued in their winning ways, in the volleyball and handball events respectively.
This is even as the players have continued to speak of the hospital and peaceful nature of Rivers State since they arrived the state for the games. Some of them have even wished that the games would not end soon.
Apart from their volleyball wins, Team Rivers also did well in table tennis. In the men’s tennis singles, Victor Abigo triumphed over Federal Ministry of Education’s Chima Ikwebum 4-1, 0-4, 4-2. The game was played at the Port Harcourt Club.
In the women’s basketball also played on Saturday, the Ministry of Defence team beat their trade and investment counterparts 36-15, while the FIRS walloped the ministry of defence team 11-3 in the volleyball event at the civic centre, while NIPOST defeated team ministry of science and technology in the draft game.
The national museum defeated the ministry of budget and planning 10:2 in the handball event, while the ICPC scored ICPC 2 and NEMA 1, Works ministry 7 and ministry of housing 5.
Handball players from the office of the SGF gave players from the ministry of women affairs a bloody nose, defeating them 6:0 in an encounter that showed expertise on the part of the SGF babes.
Also at the Port Harcourt Club on Saturday, the Ministry of Aviation defeated the Ministry of Petroleum by 1 – 0 in the first football match of the day. The game between Hydro- Electric Power Producing Corporation, HYPPADEC, and Ministry of Trade and Investment ended 3:0 in favour of HYPPADEC.

The last match of the day between the ministry of justice and the office of the accountant-general ended 3-0, with the latter losing.
But the ministry of works became an easy prey in the hands of their agriculture counterparts. They were walloped 5:0 I a match that was clearly one-sided.
In an interview with journalists, Richard Benson, the male volleyball Coach for National Assembly Service Commission said “so far we just played our second game against the Ministry of Interior and God helped us, we won the game 2-0.
“The officiating and the organising has been so fantastic. We are actually having fun here. As it is we are even praying that the games should not end because we are having fun. The environment is equally fantastic, people of Rivers State are very very welcoming and receptive. Sincerely speaking we are happy.”
In a separate interview, StellaMarris Olisa, captain of the SGF babes said “we just won our first match and I feel like I’m on top of the world. I knew that we were going to win because they (opponents) were not our match. We have been medalists for long; this is not our first outing, we’ve been here for over a decade and it’s a joyous thing as we continue to win. We are very optimistic that we will retain the gold medal. We won 6:0 and our opponents never dared to get near our goal post.”
The games will be formally declared open by the governor, Sim Fubara on Sunday(tomorrow).
