For daring them and working against the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party at the national level is planning some dangerous actions against the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike and other party members who are with him.
But the governor appears to be inches ahead of the party. He is also scheming seriously to counter what has been considered a well thought-out evil plot against him.
Part of the plan is to suspend and later expel Wike from the party. The other one is to work against the party’s governorship candidate in Rivers State, Mr Sim Fubara. The party believes that if Fubara is frustrated and made to fail, then they would have dealt a heavy blow on Wike.
In Cross River State, there is also a serious gang up against the party chairman, Mr Vena Ikem. He is seen as a core loyalist of Wike who is not willing to follow Atiku.
TNN learnt that there is a plan to remove Ikem from office if he failed to attend the Atiku campaign rally in his state. Atiku is to visit Cross River next week for his campaigns.
It was gathered that even though Ikem has kept his decision on this to himself, the chairman had decided to attend the rally.
It was also learnt that many of the party members believed to be loyal to Wike, will attend the Atiku campaign rally. TNN learnt that there are on-going moves to strengthen the PDP and harmonise the two interests ahead of the governorship election.
Senator Liyel Imoke who leads the Atiku group in the state and the other party leaders who appear to be loyal to Wike, according to TNN sources, are already striking a deal on how the have a formidable team to confront the APC at the polls.
In the midst of this, Wike is not taking anything to chances. He plans to use the courts to fight the national leadership of the party back. Already, he has secured a federal high court order in Abuja, stopping the party from a suspected move to suspend him.
In the motion marked FHC/ABJ/CS/139/2023, dated and filed on February 2, the respondents are the PDP, its National Working Committee, the National Executive Committee of PDP, the National Chairman of PDP, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, National Secretary PDP, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The order was made upon an ex-parte motion filed by Wike against the entire hierarchy of the PDP.
Justice James Kolowole Omotosho of the Federal High Cour, Abuja who presided over the case ordered that “all parties in this suit shall maintain peace and shall not take any action or step or act that may make the outcome of the Motion on Notice dated and filed February 2, 2023, nugatory and worthless.
“That any act or step or action made so as to make the outcome of the Motion on Notice dated and filed February 2, 2023, nugatory shall be a nullity.
Wike’s prayer was for an order maintaining the status quo and staying all actions in the matter relating to the threat to suspend or expel him by the 1st to 5th Respondents pending the hearing and determination of the originating motion.
He had also asked for an order of the court granting him leave to serve the motion on notice, originating motion and all other processes of the court in the suit on the 1st to 5th Respondents by substituted means to wit, by pasting all the said processes of court on PDP National Secretariat.
The case was adjourned till February 14, 2023, for hearing of the motion on notice.
An aide of the governor confided on TNN on Monday that Wike will always be ahead of his enemies. According to him, “Wike is fighting a just cause. You can see that he is always steps ahead of those planning to bring him down.
“They are ungrateful to Wike who committed his time and resources to build the party, when some of them were not interested in reviving the party. Now, they are ganging up against the governor. They will fail and Wike will triumph. Just watch it.”
TNN made efforts to reach the Cross River chairman of the PDP but his phones were not reachable. He did not also respond to whatsapp messages
