The management of the world class Ibom Icon Hotels and Golf Resort is now to be under the supervision of the state commissioner for culture and tourism, following the sack of the hotel’s management team
The state government did not give reasons for the decision, but only said in a statement by the secretary to the state government, Prince Enobong Uwah, that there were ongoing efforts to reposition the hotel.
The statement which was made public on Wednesday, said “this is to notify the general public that the government of Akwa Ibom State, under Pastor Umo Eno is desirous of repositioning the Ibom Icon Hotels and Golf Resorts to meet world class standards and therefore directs that…
“The board of directors of Ibom Hotels and Golf Resorts Limited is hereby dissolved. The negotiations on a new management team services agreement with the current managers of the hotel is discontinued and the temporary management structure in place is terminated.”
Since the hotel was established under the name Le’Meridien Hotel and Golf Resort, by the Victor Attah regime, it has gone through several management hands. Part of the problem with the hotel, according to findings, has been the issue of indebtedness on the part of the state government.
It is said that successive governments hardly pay for services it gets from the hotel, apart from the influence some of the government officials try to exert on the management team.
