Eno Begins Load Shedding, Sacks One Commissioner Inherited From Udom
1 min readIn what appears to be the beginning of efforts to shed off loads inherited from the previous government of Udom Emmanuel, the Akwa Ibom State governor, Pastor Umo Eno on Monday sacked the commissioner for special duties.
The governor did not say exactly what offence the commissioner committed, but he said in the statement signed by the secretary to the state government, Prince Ememobong Uwah, that his duties would, from now, be undertaken by the SSG.
Okon was commissioner for special duties and deep seaport under Udom. He was appointed in March 2022 and in July 2023, Eno brought him back as commissioner for special duties.
Apart from Okon, virtually all the other commissioners that worked with Udom were re-appointed by Eno. It was said that Eno decided to retain them as compensation for the job they did in bringing him to office.
With Monday’s action by the governor, there are emerging signals that having spent one year with Eno, other commissioners brought into the present government from the Udom’s government will also go, to pave the way for fresh nominees.
