1 min readDr Alex Egbona, the House of Representatives member representing the Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency of Cross River State is partnering a federal government agency, the Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute, for the training of youths and women of the constituency on food processing.
In an interview with TNN, Egbona said the training was conceptualized as part of measures to empower youths and women from the area to enable them make progress in their agricultural endeavours.
According to the lawmaker, “my people are largely farmers and I decided to attract this to my constituency so that their knowledge on food processing would be enhanced.
“The training will hold in the two local governments of Abi and Yakurr and it will be for the whole week, beginning from June 14. I have invited the local government chairmen from the two LGAs and they have graciously accepted to attend.
“At the end of the training, the participants will also receive some financial assistance to boost their investments in farming. We have not had it this good before. We want to teach the people how to fish, instead of just giving them fish to eat.”
Egbona said the selection processes were done by the people themselves and participants drawn from all the wards of the two local governments. According to him, more of such trainings and other empowerment packages would come to the constituency in the days ahead.
