Egbona Hails C’River Rep Member Over Bye-Election Victory
2 min readThe House of Representatives member from Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency of Cross River State, Dr Alex Egbona has congratulated his counterpart from the Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency, Dr Emil Inyang, for winning the bye-election that took place last Saturday.
Egbona said in a statement on Monday that Inyang’s victory was an indication that the Akamkpa/Biase people were in love with him and had actually voted for him during last year’s general election.
He also said the APC, under which platform Inyang won the election, had become the people’s first choice in Cross River, largely because of the leadership style of the governor, Senator Bassey Otu. Egbona said he would have been shocked if Inyang did not win the bye-election.
“I have known Dr Emill Inyang for years. As chairman of Biase, he did extremely well. I believe that was part of why his people decided to vote for him during the general election that held last year. When the court sacked him and ordered a fresh election, I was not worried because I knew he was going to win.
“When you serve your people with all your heart, just like our governor, this is what you get. Our party, the APC, has done so well in this state and that is why it has become the party of choice. I therefore celebrate and congratulate my brother and friend on this well deserved victory.
“This is a road I have passed through. Inyang and I now have same experience. The journey to this second victory must have been very tortuous but I am happy that his people came out to prove a point, that last year’s victory was not a fluke,” he noted.
Egbona who is the House Committee chairman on specialty healthcare expressed the hope that Inyang would continue to justify the trust his people have for him, even as he said the APC would continue to work as a united family to deliver quality leadership and service to the people of Cross River.
