The governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri has urged the people of the state to take the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination programme seriously and avail themselves for the exercise.
The governor described the vaccine as the pharmaceutical measure to check the spread and mortality rate of the deadly pandemic.
Diri stated this in Government House, Yenagoa the state capital during the flag off ceremony of the COVID-19 vaccination exercise, promising that his administration would continue to give priority to the health sector.
Represented by his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the governor commended the federal government and the various agencies on their roles in ensuring that the vaccines got to Nigeria and Bayelsa in particular.

The governor noted that the state was taking the Coronavirus vaccines seriously as there could not be prosperity without good health.
According to him, it was based on the importance his government attached to the health of the citizenry that the state’s scarce resources were deployed to the fight against the virus during the peak of the disease.
While calling on Bayelsans to take advantage of the free vaccination, the governor enjoined the people not to be afraid as its benefits out ways its perceived side effects.
He also thanked the COVID-19 taskforce and health workers who have been on the frontline to check the spread of the disease.
Diri further hinted that government has directed that all referral hospitals across the state be completed and put to use to improve the living standard of the people, urging the people to observe all COVID-19 protocols.
