The senatorial ambition of the former deputy governor of Bayelsa state, Chief Peremobowei Ebebi has received a major boost as stateholders of Constituency 3 in Sagbama Local Government Area unanimously endorsed his candidacy.
Ebebi, who is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Bayelsa West senatorial district bye-election scheduled to hold on October 31, got the endorsement at Latic Hotel in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital during SALGA constituency 3 stakeholders meeting.
The meeting was well attended by leaders of thought as well as community and political leaders, from the six Wards that make up the Sagbama constituency 3 where participants said they preferred to follow a leader who would represent their collective interest at the red chambers rather than being sentimental.
The motion for Ebebi’s endorsement was moved by a community leader from Sagbama Ward 8, Odoni community, Mr. Pamo Kakandar and seconded by Mr. Mavis Dakolo of ward 6, Agbere town.
Speaking at the event, a former member and Deputy Chief Whip of the Bayelsa state House of Assembly, Mr. Ebamogha Empere, said “we have tried certain persons in the national assembly and all we got was complaints.
“These are the same persons that are coming to say they want to go back to the national assembly. We have tried them and they failed woefully.
“If you really want to know who Peremobowei Ebebi is, go to the grassroots and ask the average person, they will tell you who he is. His major qualities are accessibility, unassuming, and he is generous to a fault.
“If Ebebi sees you walking without shoes, he wouldn’t mind giving you his peer of shoes and go home bare footed. That is the kind of person we are taking about.
“I have been privileged to work with the two senatorial candidates for Bayelsa West. I have worked with Ebebi and l have also worked with Seriake Dickson. With my experience, working with the two of them, I can tell you categorically that if you juxtapose the two side by side, there is no basis for comparison.”
Also speaking, former chairman of Toru-Abubou Rural Development Area (RDA) in SALGA, Mr. Benafegha Tonkumo who hails from Trofani Ward 9 said they decided to choose Ebebi as soul candidate for the senatorial bye-election because of his antecedents of human empowerment, accessibility, and generosity.
A former councillor representing Ward 7 in the Sagbama Legislative Assembly and a native of Elemebiri community, Mr. Bamiekumo Andrew said during ebebi’s time as deputy governor, he worked with his boss, Goodluck Jonathan in ensuring that workers’ salaries were paid promptly, noting that Bayelsans never experienced hardship in those days.
Other stakeholders who spoke at the meeting described Ebebi as easy going, and a leader who believes in the well-being of he followers, adding that they decided to pinch their tent with the Ekeremor local government born politician because they knew he would not disappoint them if he wins.
Ebebi is contesting the Bayelsa West senatorial district bye-election against the immediate past governor of Bayelsa state, Mr. Seriake Dickson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who hails from Toru-Orua, in Sagbama local government area of the state.
