Cultism Claims Student’s Life In Bayelsa, 2 Arrested

Cultism has reared up its ugly head again, claiming the life of one Ebube Jonathan, ’21’, a suspected cultists and 200-level student of the Bayelsa State Owned Niger Delta University, Amassoma in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the State.

The Bayelsa State Police Command says it has arrested two suspected cultists armed with guns in an attempted reprisal attacks for the death of their member.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Iyamah Daniel Edebor has warned criminal elements to desist from unlawful activities or face full weight of the law.

The police recovered two locally made pistols with two live 9mm ammunition from the two suspects.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Musa Mohammed said the cult killing occurred on Tuesday, 7th July 2026, at about 1400 hours.

He said the deceased was a suspected member of the black axe confraternity.

“He was attacked by yet to be identified assailants along Kabaka Street, Amassoma. The victim was macheted, shot, and later confirmed dead by a medical doctor,” the PPRO said.

The Police image maker identified the arrested two suspects as Godswin Adobu ‘m’, 24, a 300-Level student of Fine and Applied Art and Tarilaefa Fesingha ‘m’, 21 all of the Niger Delta university.

He warned that the command under Iyamah as commissioner would not tolerate cultism and other violent crimes across the state.

He also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to the police to support ongoing efforts to rid Bayelsa State of criminality
