CRSG Investigates SMS Persuading Citizens on False COVID-19 Status

Cross River State Government has commenced investigation on the origin of a bulk Short Message Service, SMS, persuading its citizens to announce false COVID-19 status for a financial benefit.

The state commissioner for Health, Dr. Betta Edu made this known to TNN in a chat where she stressed that her team would get to the crux of the matter and announce the outcome as soon as possible.

“We have begun to use other intelligence to investigate where the message is emanating from, we will apprehend and bring to book whoever that is linked with this act”, the commissioner averred.

She assured citizens that the state was yet to record any index case of Coronavirus, urging them to remain calm, obey government directives and disregard all rumors of suspected cases in the state as such information had been proven to be false.

Edu also debunked rumours of the state government accusing Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, as the originator of the SMS, stating that the investigation was being conducted with openness so as not to limit the result of the investigation.
