A youth group under the aegis of the Youths Peace Vanguard which draws membership from the 18 local government areas of Cross River State has made a case for the emergence of the next state governor from the southern senatorial district.
Their call is in line with the position of the state governor, Prof Ben Ayade, who has insisted that he will handover to a governor from the south.
Already, his party, the APC, has ensured that its consensus candidate is a native of the southern district. The major challenger decided to step down last week, declaring support for the preferred candidate of the governor and the APC.
In the PDP, it is not yet clear where the pendulum would swing, though it is very likely that a candidate from the central district may pick the party’s ticket.

Coordinator of the group, Obi Amba Ojong said his group was favourably disposed to supporting someone from the south as the next governor, saying that would be the best for the state.
He said local governments like Biase and Akamkpa had not tasted power at that level before and sought the support of all in that direction.
