The management of Dan Archibong Memorial Secondary School, Usung Esuk Odot, Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State, has decried the absence of toilet facilities and water in their school.
The management spoke out at the official commissioning and unveiling of three classroom blocks attracted to them by the member representing Calabar Municipality and Odukpani Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Eta Mbora,
Mbora who was accompanied by Ntufam Ekpo Okon, the senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Cross Rive South, promised to do more for the community and charged the management to ensure proper use of the facility and maintenance.
Principal of the school, Pastor Ivi Solomon Okwe who was represented by Elder Nyong Okon Essien, appreciated the lawmaker for the project, even though it came without toilet and water system.
“Most of our students here came in from nursery schools and you know the system in nursery schools these days, they don’t work(do labour). So coming to the secondary school, it becomes hard for them to handle machetes and so on. We have bushes around, so when our students want to defecate, they run to the bushes.
“We don’t have water facilities actually, we can get a drum and mandate the children(students) to fill it with water that we can be managing until we get water facilities. I am pleading with the government to please come to our aid as they have already started. We need water in the school; any help they can give us, as a school, we will appreciate.”
