Dr Alex Egbona, the member representing Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency of Cross River State in the House of Representatives has lost his mother, Madam Maria E. Enya, popularly known and called Mma Alex.
A statement personally signed by the lawmaker on Tuesday said Madam Maria died in her sleep on February 7, 2024, after 85 eventful and very impactful years of selfless service to humanity.
“This is a very touching moment for me, especially when I reminiscence on the pains and stress she went through to raise me, almost alone, as my father had died when I was too little a boy to understand anything,” Egbona said.
The statement said consultations were ongoing with the family and the church on the burial arrangements. It said the public will be notified the moment a date is confirmed.
Egbona urged his constituents and the entire state to remember him in their prayers. I have not been myself since I received the news of my mother’s death. She meant so much to me. With her death, I am seriously heart broken and destabilized. Please pray for me and members of my family. I believe that God will see us through as he has always done.”
