C’River Rep Celebrates Abbas At 60, Calls Him Iconic Speaker

The House of Representatives member from Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency of Cross River State, Dr Alex Egbona has described the speaker of the lower arm of the National Assembly, Tajudeen Abbas, as an iconic speaker who has shown maturity in his leadership of the legislature.

Egbona said in a statement on Sunday that at 60, the speaker has proved himself to be detribalised, humane, humble and servant leader. While congratulating him on his 60^th birthday, Egbona said it was not a mere coincidence that Abbas was sharing same birthday with Nigeria.

“I have known him for some years now and in all my dealings with him, I can attest to his character and mien. He is a great Nigerian and deserves all the encomiums on this special day of his birth anniversary.

“I do not see it as a mere coincidence, that our speaker was born on October 1, the same day that Nigeria gained independence. Those who are close to him do know that Honourable Abbas is a man of honour and discipline and he has brought these traits to bear in his leadership of both of federal constituency and the House of Representatives. ”

The legislator said God had kept the speaker alive in good health to attain the diamond jubilee because he still had so much to do for the people of his constituency, his state and Nigeria, saying the nation needed more of his wealth of experience and wisdom to take the country to higher heights.

According to him, “our country needs the wisdom of people like Abbas. To attain the diamond age is no joke at all. The God that has preserved him for this long, keeping him in good health still has a purpose for him to fulfil in Nigeria and I believe that that purpose will be fulfilled.

“My prayer is that he will live long and enjoy more good health; may God guide and direct every step of his and give him the needed wisdom for every situation as a father, husband, political leader and mentor. May his light not dim.”
