Ngarabe, a sub-community in Ekureku, Abi Local Government Area, Cross River State has decried abandonment of the only primary health centre in Ekureku ward II by the government.
The centre located in Ngarabe community was established in 1974 by the then military Government of Cross River State to serve the health needs of over 70, 000 populations of people in Ekureku ward I and II and the neighbouring communities. However, the abandonment of the facility by successive governments has led to continuous deterioration of the facility with grossly inadequate manpower.

It was learnt that the Primary Health Centre had its worst hit in 2017 when windstorm blew off part of the roof of the main facility and the entire block B staff quarters that houses the officer-in-charge and another staff, which has not been fixed till date despite efforts to reach out to State Emergency Agency and the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency.
It is estimated that over N24 million would fix the Primary Health Centre to be at par with 21st century primary health centers, especially as the United Nations advocates universal health coverage for all.

While the community calls on the government agencies to come to their aid, especially the state primary healthcare development agency and the state community social development agency, they equally appeal to Non-Governmental Organizations, Donor partners and spirited individuals to come to their rescue.
Meanwhile, before filing the report, TNN put a call across to the Director General of Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Janet Ekpenyong but she was not taking her calls.
