C’River North: Again, Appeal Court Confirms Jarigbe Senator

1 min read

The court of appeal in Abuja has refused to reverse itself in the decision it made declaring Mr Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe as the senator-elect for the Cross River North Senatorial District.

The court, presided over by the president of the court of appeal, Justice Monica Mensem Dongban said the decision of the court of appeal, Calabar division, which gave victory to Jarigbe could not be reversed.

IN declaring Jarigbe winner of the election, the court also awarded N1m cost against Mr Steve Odey and Joe Agi, SAN, respectively, for wasting the time of the court.

By the decision, Jarigbe who has already been issued a certificate of return by the INEC, is only waiting for the resumption of the National Assembly to be inaugurated as senator.

He will be taking over from Rose Oko who died in London Hospital. With Saturday’s judgement, there is no reprieve for Steve Odey any longer, other than to move out his property from the senate.

The position of the court is also a serious blow for the govenor, Prof Ben Ayade, who had hoped to have Odey in the senate. With the judgment also, the PDP will be having a comfortable three seats in the senate seat.
