C’River Guber: Appeal Court Decides Fate of Onor, Otu Wednesday
1 min readThe court of appeal sitting in Lagos will on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 give judgement on the appeal filed by Prof Sandy Onor, candidate of the PDP in the last gubernatorial election in Cross River State.
Senator Bassey Otu of the APC had been declared winner by INEC after the election, prompting Onor to approach the tribunal where he sought Otu’s sack, saying that the governor was not qualified to contest the election ab initio.
He had also contested that his running mate, Peter Odey, was not properly nominated by the APC, as he was still a member of the PDP as at the time of the election.
The tribunal however dismissed the petition, affirming that Otu and his deputy were properly elected. Onor approached the appeal court, faulting the position of the tribunal.
Weeks after the two parties adopted their written addresses, the court is now ready to pass its judgement on Wednesday, in Lagos.
