Community To Honour C’River Rep For Medical Outreach Initiative
3 min readThere have been an outpouring of blessings from community leaders, patients and health workers in the Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency of Cross River State since Wednesday when the free medical outreach facilitated by Dr Alex Egbona, the member representing the area in the House of Representatives commenced.
On Thursday when the medical team moved to Mkpani, Yakurr Local Government Area and Ebom, Abi Local Government, various community leaders as well as royal fathers poured their heart out in blessing Egbona for the initiative.
The Obol Lopon of Mkpani, Obol Sunday Obongho Okoi, for example, said even though he had called Egbona early on Thursday morning to thank him for attracting the free medical outreach to his people, it was also expedient for him to thank and bless the legislator publicly.
He noted that “Chief Alex Egbona has empowered and trained a lot of people. He recently brough borehole to us. He has brought solar powered street light to Mkpani. He has been my friend and will continue to be my friend.
“I am proud of him and my people are very proud of him. God will not forget Alex Egbona. He has created an impact in this community. All of us have different sicknesses and I have my own. I decided to also come here so that the doctors can give me some attention and they have done so.”
He said he would soon call out his people to a ceremony where Mkpani people would have the opportunity of celebrating the lawmaker for all he has done for Mkpani.
A similar scenario played out at Ebom where the medical experts also provided services to hundreds of people who thronged the health centre with various illnesses. While the doctors going about their duties, leaders of the community dragged Egbona to their community hall where they poured encomium on him, for bringing health workers to their community.
They were also thankful to him for providing their health centre with solar inverter which is providing uninterrupted power supply to the health facility. They commended him for his sacrificial service to the people and pledged to always stand by him.
Chief Egbe Sunday Nkanu, who spoke for the Ebom council of chiefs described the outreach as a life saver, saying Egbona had shown that he was a true friend of the Ebom people.
Newly inaugurated councilor from the ward, Micheal Eko, who was present at the time of the visit, conveyed the gratitude of his people to Egbona and prayed God to keep him alive and in good health.
At the Agbara health centre where major surgical operations took place, patients refused to allow the doctors to leave them in their conditions, insisting that their cases must be handled before they would leave.
The doctors were forced to spend more days, as patients keep flooding the place for either hyena, lumps, fibroid and other cases that required surgery. In all the centres, eye surgeries were also undertaken and medicated glasses given to those with such needs. The outreach which holds simultaneously in eight centres in the constituency is expected to end on Saturday.
