By our Correspondent

Ten Councilors of the Southern Ijaw Local Government Legislative Assembly out of the 17 members have passed a vote of no confidence on the Leader of the Assembly, Mr. Edward Oweila, over allegations of gross misconduct, highhandedness and embezzlement of funds approved by the council chairman, Mr. Target Isaiah Segibo for the councilors.

The ten councilors have also declared the leader of the assembly persona non grata and urged the chairman and management of Southern Ijaw local government council not to have any financial dealings with him (the leader), emphasizing that they have lost confidence in him and could no longer be the leader of the assembly.

Those that signed the notice of vote of no confidence include: Laboh Ayebanua of ward 1, Eniekade Mangari- ward 4 , Daniel Tonbra Regina ward 6, Bunatari Efere-ward 7 as well as Diewarimi Manson Christina, ward 8.

Others include: Paul Ebi, ward 9, Asari Ebimoboere Loveth, ward 10, Bestman Anki Marcus-ward 13, Igbe Ayibamotimi- 15 and Ekubo Biedoumotie Tobin for ward 17.

They alleged that Oweila misappropriated and diverted millions of naira approved by the council chairman for legislative business to his private pocket, describing the act as high level of corruption.

The grassroots representatives threatened to petition the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Crimes Commission (ICPC) and other anti-graft agencies to investigate the leader of the legislative assembly if nothing is done by the management of council to call the accused to order.

The councilors advised members of the public not to have any dealings with Oweila, stressing that he no longer represents their interest.

When Oweila finally picked his call after several attempts to reach him for his reaction to the allegations, the leader promised to call back but has yet to do so as at the time of filing this report.
