Bayelsa Govt Resumes Illegal Structures Demolition Wednesday

By John Odhe, YENAGOA

The Bayelsa State Physical Planning and Development Board has issued a final warning to those who erected illegal structures and caravans on government right of ways to remove them with immediate effect.

The Executive Chairman of the board, Mr. Kuroakegha Dorgu, in a statement, said the board would resume demolition exercise on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 in the State capital to ensure compliance with its earlier removal order.

The statement noted that the structures earmarked for removal include some around the Law School fence at Agudama-Epie, Azikoro Road and Captain Amangala Road in the State capital.

Dorgu said the operation would also be carried out along the Mbiama-Yenagoa Expressway and other areas where illegal structures had been identified.

The board warned that those who failed to remove their illegal structures and valuables from the right of ways would have themselves to blame, and not the state government or the board.

He reemphasized that the board would not be held responsible for any damage resulting from the exercise, charging all affected persons to comply with the directives.

He added that all illegal structures must be removed before the commencement of the demolition exercise as no excuse would be entertained during the operation.

According to the board chairman, the exercise was aimed at witch hunting anyone but to sanitise the state capital and ensure free vehicular movements in all parts of the city.
