The Bayelsa State Government has expressed condolences over the death of Mr. Peresuodei Ondutimi Abbah of Amassoma community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area and assured that justice would be served.
In a statement from the Office of the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, the government said it was aware of the circumstances surrounding Abbah’s death and had commenced steps to ensure that anyone found culpable would be held accountable through due process.
The statement noted that Governor Douye Diri had directed the Ministry of Justice to take special interest in the matter, adding that the ministry was working closely with the Bayelsa State Police Command and other security agencies to ensure a thorough, impartial and transparent investigation.
According to the government, investigations had reached an advanced stage, with critical information obtained and statements taken from relevant witnesses, assuring that no stone would be left unturned in uncovering the truth.
It further stated that the Governor had directed the Office of the Attorney-General to take over the case for prosecution upon the conclusion of police investigations.
The government also appealed to members of the public to remain calm, avoid speculation and refrain from spreading unverified information that could hinder investigations or heighten tension.
