Bayelsa Decides: No Clue Yet On Kidnapped INEC Staff • Voters Apathy in Many Polling Units
1 min readThe Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says there is no clue as at Saturday morning on the kidnapped SPO who was taken away by gunmen at Amassoma, in the Southern Ijaw Local Government, while waiting to get a boat.
The identity of the kidnapped official is yet to be known. INEC’s head of voter education and publicity in Bayelsa State, Wilfred Ifogah told TNN in Yenagoa on Saturday that he could not disclose the identity of the kidnapped personnel.
The rising tension in many parts of the state appears to have affected voters turn out as at 10am on Saturday. From Brass to Nembe, there were reports of very low turn-out of registered voters at the polling units.
Also, some unknown gunmen are said to have continued to patrol the waterways of Southern Ijaw and Brass. But as at 9.45 am, there was calm in Opkoama and the Ogbolomabiri towns of Brass and Nembe respectively.
